Youth Plus Africa is a dynamic organization dedicated to empowering young people across the continent through innovative programs, events, and initiatives. They wish to recruit a Production Manager to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Oversee the production of original concept multi-media content for branding, marketing and promoting Youth+ Group and its clients to internal and external audiences. The Production Manager will support the promotional, development activities of various Youth+ Group brands and those of Youth+ Group’s clients in exclusive ways by delivering on internal or external briefs and required outputs and deliverables. Responsible for improving operational results by assessing performance; diagnosing problems; and developing and implementing change management programs to increase effectiveness across all production deliverables. Manage audio/visual creation and services from scheduling projects to producing video content by providing a full range of desktop publishing, graphics, interactive multimedia and photography and video products.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-Production Phase
Budget Resources:
- Develop a detailed budget per project based on script breakdown and expected deliverables.
- Allocate resources (crew, equipment, locations) to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor and adjust budget as needed, keeping key stakeholders informed.
- Pitch clients, secure funding and negotiate contracts with clients and vendors.
Scheduling & Logistics:
- Break down respective scripts into workable shooting schedules.
- Coordinate with internal teams, videographers/photographers and talent on availability to avoid conflicts.
- Scout and secure filming locations, obtaining necessary permits.
- Organize transportation and accommodation where necessary for relevant teams and personnel.
Crew & Talent:
- Recruit and hire qualified freelancers, talent, camera operators, sound technicians, etc.
- Manage crew contracts, workplans, and deliverables
- Cooridnate with relevant departments to negotiate contracts, manage logistics (travel, accommodations, etc).
Preparation & Documentation:
- Develop production plans and storyboards for each project, whether internal or external.
- Obtain necessary props, costumes, and set dressings.
- Arrange necessary safety procedures, insurance coverage or emergency protocols for necessary teams.
- Maintain detailed production documentation for future reference.
Production Phase:
- Supervise, train and provide creative and operational direction to videographers, photographers, editors and part time staff to ensure job requirements are met and to ensure successful completion of assigned tasks and projects. Oversee the media production process, team workload, and budget management of external resources. Prioritize assigned projects.
- Develop and produce/direct video projects. Set up in-house and on-location video shoots including lighting, shot composition, and audio. Collaborate in the creative design and media production process to effectively communicate the intended message and engage internal and external stakeholders.
- Direct and produce interactive multi-media products and videos to be seen on a variety of media, including broadcast television, internet, live presentations and html email blasts.
- Operate audio/video/photo equipment when needed.
- Research, identify, consult and oversee external resources (e.g. freelancers, talent, etc.)
- Partner with design, web, and editorial managers to ensure brand and client’s are represented consistently across all marketing mediums. Maintain professional relationships and acts as liaison between marketing and external partners/clients.
- Build cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve group goals and outcomes for Youth+ Group and its clients.
Post-Production Phase:
Delivery & Management:
- Oversee the editing process, ensuring adherence to creative vision and budget.
- Manage post-production vendors (color grading, sound mixing, VFX).
- Deliver the final product to internal stakeholders and clients on time and within specifications.
- Archive production materials for future use or legal requirements.
Wrap-Up & Reconciliation:
- Finalize outstanding invoices and ensure all contractual obligations are met.
- Return rented equipment and settle outstanding vendor invoices.
- Conduct post-production wrap meetings to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare final budget reports and documentation for management and clients.
Delivery, Marketing and/or Distribution:
- Collaborate with marketing and creative teams to develop promotional materials for internal and external projects.
- Assist with securing distribution deals and festival submissions.
- Manage publicity campaigns and media outreach for projects.
- Track and analyze audience response and performance metrics.
Evaluation & Learning:
- Analyze production data to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Reflect on successes and challenges to improve future projects.
- Share lessons learned with colleagues and contribute to industry knowledge.
